For Immediate Release - Toronto, October 5, 2000: Toronto's newest chamber music ensemble, Talisker Players, proudly launches its inaugural concert series with an evening titled What Dreams May Come, on Tuesday, November 7, 2000, at 8PM, at Trinity-St. Paul's Centre in Toronto.

What Dreams May Come features soprano Margaret Evans, mezzo-soprano Lori Klassen and tenor Geoffrey Butler with Talisker Players in a seductive program that conjugates poetry and music. Poems by Margaret Sweatman and Jacques Prévert come to life in rarely heard settings by Glenn Buhr and Harry Freedman. Texts by J.P. Contamine de laTour are set to the music of Eric Satie, arranged by Rudolf Komorous, and Richard Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder have been revisited by Montreal-based composer John Plant.

Where words and music meet: Talisker Players is an expandable string quartet with the unique mandate of presenting vocal chamber music. Members of Talisker Players (Valerie Sylvester and Kleis Swan, violins; Mary McGeer, viola and Karl Toews, cello) share a passion for music and literature, hence this venture into the eclectic repertoire for solo voice and chamber ensemble. The musicians have been working together since 1995, mostly as a choral music orchestra. The group has gained an enviable reputation for excellence in the art of vocal/instrumental collaboration. With this new series, Talisker Players is transferring these skills to work with vocal soloists. "This more intimate realm of chamber music is too seldom explored or performed", comments violinist/concertmaster Valerie Sylvester, who co-founded Talisker Players with violist Mary McGeer. "Such a rich treasury of music deserves to be shared."
